Introduction to Essay Writing Workshop

This writing workshop is designed to gently introduce students to essay writing fundamentals in a low-pressure, supportive environment. Students will learn how to organize ideas, write clear paragraphs, and build a complete 5-paragraph essay step by step.

• 📅 Dates: September 9 – October 21, 2026 (Classroom opens 9/9. First live lesson 9/16.)

• 💻 Live Meetings: Wednesdays at 2 PM Eastern Time over Google Meet (60-75 minutes).

• 🎥 Pre-recorded lessons and worksheets in Google Classroom.

• 🧮 Group Size: 4-10 students per session

Workshop Overview

By the end of the writing workshop, students will be able to:

• Understand basic essay structure
• Write a thesis statement
• Organize ideas into paragraphs
• Use evidence effectively
• Write an introduction and conclusion
• Complete a 5-paragraph essay

Each week includes:

• One pre-recorded lesson
• One parent/adult coaching video
• One live lesson with time for questions
• Guided practice or short writing activities
• Worksheets or templates
• No grades, but feedback to strengthen their understanding

Weekly Schedule:

1. Week 1: What Is an Essay (Spoiler: It Isn’t Scary, But There Are Skeletons)
2. Week 2: The Thesis Statement: Get To The Point
3. Week 3: Build Strong Body Paragraphs
4. Week 4: Introductions & Conclusions That Work
5. Week 5: Putting It All Together: The Full Essay
6. Week 6: Revision and Polishing: The Final Essay
